The Goalie Club teamed up with youth hockey powerhouse Shattuck-St. Mary’s Prep School in April of 2005. In the years since, SSM has won many USA Hockey National Championships. The Girls Prep Team won the 19U Girls Championships in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2011. The Boys Prep Team won the 18U Tier I Boys Championships in 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, and 2014, and 14U won in 2014. SSM also captured the Boys Prep World Sport School Challenge Gold Medal in 2011 and 2013. The U16 Girls won the National Championship in 2010, 2013, and 2014.
The similarities between TGC and SSM are quite clear. Both programs believe in the importance of surrounding athletes with a top-level professional coaching staff who can share their own talents and experiences with each athlete. The passion that you see from the staff at SSM and TGC are second to none. For anyone who has been fortunate enough to be a part of (from within, or experience from the outside) Shattuck-St. Mary’s Hockey, he or she has witnessed one of the most impressive hockey cultural institutions around. Each member of the staff brings his or her own unique playing and coaching experiences that continue to build on the successes of seasons past.
Attention Goalies! An exciting new approach and philosophy in Goalie
Breakaway Academy is a 9 month private school Academy located in
Chaska, Minnesota. Students are in a traditional classroom setting for their core
studies and train in hockey 5 days a week. Classes are taught by experienced licensed teachers. Goalies will have a private
instructor working with them two days a week with on-ice skill instruction
and a Goalie exclusive skate one day per week.
This all new goalie program is open to goalies entering the 5th through 8th
grade come fall 2014. Classes will begin the day after Labor Day at the Chaska Community Center at Breakaway School Academy.
Goalies will have a chance to get TGC professional training three times
a week without having to look outside the regular school day. This will
mean moretime together with their families.
Furthermore, this type of instruction is
revolutionary for youth goalies. Goalies are getting consistent feed back,
thousands of repetitions, and able to make corrections immediately.
Goalies will receive approximately 90 training hours during the
course of the school year. On non-TGC days, goalies will join team practices
to work on the skills in a self motivated setting.
At the end of each school day goalies will join their association team for practices and games. Parents and team coaches will have feedback with TGC instructors to help assist in the development process. Example: A parent or coach witnesses his son or daughter playing too deep in the net in a game over the weekend. The dad or coach can email TGC these observations. The following day TGC will discuss the situation with the goalie and provide reasoning to challenge in this circumstance, building trust with the goalie. The TGC coach will provide drill work to help make the adjustment.
